Chapter 1: Agent Wisteria
Geneva, Switzerland - Zermatt, Switzerland
Gwen St Clair was in a good mood. It was Friday afternoon with a 3-day weekend only minutes away. She and her colleagues at Interpol’s Geneva office were going out for happy hour to tell each other about their great plans for the long weekend. As the clock finally ticked to 5pm, Gwen closed her laptop and filled her briefcase with case files she promised herself she’d read over the weekend but probably wouldn’t. She then headed out to the Little Barrel bar eager to get the weekend started.
With a glass of Bordeaux wine in her hands, Gwen was telling her colleagues about her plans to go to the family chalet in Chamonix, France, about a 75-minute drive up in the Alps. Her friends got a good laugh as Gwen often went to Chamonix on her never-ending project of renovating the family house. Just then her cell phone rang with the caller ID of “Wisteria”. She debated whether to answer the call when her guilty conscious got the better of her. “Hello Robert, or should I say, Wisteria. How are you this Friday evening”, as she cheerfully answered the call.
Robert Taylor, aka Agent Wisteria, was a dual British/Swiss citizen and the President of Vulcan Precious Metals based in Lucerne, Switzerland. But more importantly, Robert, who enjoyed his agent’s name of Wisteria, was a valuable source of reliable intelligence to Interpol. Long rumored to be a dual agent for both his family countries, Gwen and Interpol had no misgivings that he more than likely supplied identical intelligence directly to MI6 in London. But both organizations looked the other way as they were on the same side in their fight against crime.
“Gwen, it’s imperative we meet tomorrow. I’m in Zermatt finishing up my weeklong holiday and leaving Sunday for the USA. I wouldn’t ask you to come and meet me if it wasn’t of significant importance to the EU. And it’s something we must do face to face as I am not comfortable talking about it over the phone”, implored Robert. “Please, can you take the train over, and I’ll buy you a dinner that will surely be divine”, Robert added, trying to sweeten his offer.
